Interview with Corina de la Rosa

By: M. Belén Bulacio –

We interviewed Corina de la Rosa, dancer, Tango and Gyrotonic teacher, actress and choreographer.

Belén: When and how did you connect with Gyrotonic?

Corina: I met Gyrotonic in 2003. I was teaching a tango class to a woman in Denver Colorado, she was breathing strangely in every exercise, I asked her what she was doing and she said Gyrotonic! She thought I knew the system because, according to her, I was explaining the same thing. So the next day I went with her to take a class, within a month I was doing Gyro Pre-training. I did a lot of Graham technique training and the foundation was the same and I thought it was a great complement and a good way to innovate training.

Belén: How do you see the link between Tango and Gyrotonic?

Corina: The link is because I do tango; Gyrotonic has a lot of applications since its principle is the expansion and fluidity of movement and that is why it is excellent for training any discipline. Especially the spine movements are very good for any activity that requires dissociation.

Belén: What did Juliu Horvath’s method contribute to your dance?

Corina: I don’t claim that Juliu’s method has given something to my dancing, but Cristina Barnils, my Graham teacher, has. I do use certain exercises to communicate my Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis way of moving, I think that the training in Gyrotonic gave me as a teacher and as a dancer what I brought from elsewhere.

Gyrotonic is a very good training method, very complete for any discipline. I usually combine Gyro classes with my tango classes.

Belén: Would you like to share with us the next activities in your Tango and Gyrotonic agenda?

Corina: You can visit my website www.estudiodelarosa.com where you can find all the proposals and activities. And the schedule of my classes is:
