Argentina held the seventh edition of the "London Goes Tango" event during the weekend as part of the "Summer By the River" festival. The program included tango classes for children and adult beginners. In addition, tango and milonga dances were performed by the five Argentine academies in the UK.
During the "Summer by the River" festival, Argentina participated in a full day with the classic Buenos Aires tango in London and the presence of a large number of people. The event is held annually by the Argentine Embassy in the United Kingdom and was supported by the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR).
In addition to tango classes for children and adult beginners, tango and milonga dances were performed by the five Argentine academies in the UK.
The event was completed with the presence of a live orchestra, music djs and videos with tourist images of Argentina. Carlos Gardel, Aníbal Troilo, Carlos Di Sarli, Astor Piazzolla, Juan d'Arienzo and Homero Exposito were present through their songs.
The context in the United Kingdom, in which the sanitary measures were relaxed, helped the participation of the public, both as participants in the classes and as spectators, to be highly positive and higher than expected.
"Showing tango culture in such an important market for us as the British market serves to encourage tourists to come to our country when the sanitary situation allows it and to learn more about the dance. We are getting ready to receive tourists in the best way and that is why it is essential to show the culture of Buenos Aires as well as the natural beauties of the whole country. That is why we are taking advantage of the event to also showcase other nature destinations in Argentina," said the executive secretary of INPROTUR, Ricardo Sosa.
The first day of London Goes Tango, 7th edition, took place on Saturday, July 31 at The Scoop, an amphitheater in the center of the city, surrounded by City Hall, the Mayor of London's office, the Shard, London Bridge and Tower Bridge, and in front of the Tower of London. More than 1,200 people passed through The Scoop on Saturday. In addition, a second full day will be held on August 22nd in London from 12 noon to 10pm.
The Summer by the River Festival began on June 10 and consists of a daily program for three months on the banks of the river, so that London visitors and tourists can enjoy a variety of shows, music, dance classes and entertainment. It also has a giant screen where they broadcast the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and showed live the Wimbledon Tournament, the Grand Slam tennis tournament that ended in early July.
