Aníbal Troilo, Master of the Fueye (Flute)

El Bandoneón Mayor de Buenos Aires was born on July 11, 1914 in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Abasto. Nicknamed "Pichuco", Bandoneón Day was established in his honor. About his nickname, which accompanied him since he was a child, he said: "my father had a friend who was called Pichuco. About my first tears as a child, with his manly sweetness, perhaps happy my father tried to calm me down: 'Well,.... Pichuco... well'. And he stayed with me forever".

He had his first instrument at the age of 10 and, at 11, he gave his first performance. At 14, he had already formed a quintet. On July 1, 1937 he made his debut, with his own orchestra, at the Marabú nightclub. A poster announced: "Everybody to the Marabú, the top boite, where Pichuco and his orchestra will make you dance good tangos". From then on he formed orchestras and played with the best musicians of his time.

He composed countless tangos, many of them co-authored with Homero Manzi, Cátulo Castillo, Enrique Cadícamo, José María Contursi. He wrote music for Barrio de tango, Che bandoneón, Sur, Romance de barrio, Desencuentro, La última curda, María, Garúa, Pa' que bailen los muchachos, Discepolín, among other works.

Important singers trained with Aníbal Troilo, joining his orchestra: Angel Cárdenas, Francisco Fiorentino, Alberto Marino, Edmundo Rivero, Roberto Rufino, Floreal Ruiz, Nelly Vázquez. But the friendship and companionship they forged with Roberto Goyeneche was based on admiration and respect.

Troilo died on May 18, 1975.
