Twenty tango artists pay tribute to Maradona

It was within the framework of the 2021st edition of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Tango Championship. The show included versions of "La Mano de Dios" popularized by the quartet singer Rodrigo or "La Vida Tómbola" by Manu Chao.

A tribute to the figure of Diego Armando Maradona was held at Parque Centenario with more than 20 artists on stage who offered a repertoire to the rhythm of tango to remember the best soccer player of all times.

As part of the 2021 edition of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Tango Festival, the most important event of tango culture in the world, a free concert was held that explored the life and work of the genius through images, dance and music.

With tango versions of songs such as "La Mano de Dios" popularized by the quartet singer Rodrigo or "La Vida Tómbola" by Manu Chao, the show included new premieres such as an unpublished song by the poet Horacio Ferrer and the instrumental of "El Gol del Siglo", composed especially for the occasion by the bandoneonist Gabriel Merlino.

There were also the classics that Diego sang so many times, such as "El sueño del pibe" or "Cucusita", as well as other tributes from the tango world created in his honor by Jorge 'Alorsa' Pandelucos, Alejandro Szwarcman and Pablo Covacevich.

The opening was in charge of the dancer Mauro Caiazza, who returned to the stage with a new proposal and aesthetics to make his debut as a singer in "D10S", a song that mixes urban music with tango, which opened the concert in which Cardenal Domínguez and Hernán Rinaudo, among other artists, also participated.

The singers Ricardo Marín and Roxana Fontán came on stage to accompany Gabriel Merlino and his ensemble, who then sang "El Sueño del Pibe", the song composed by Reinaldo Yiso and Juan Puey in 1942, which Pelusa himself immortalized (and modified) fifty years later in a television program by Antonio Gasalla.

"Cucusita", another of Diez's favorite tangos, was present in the voice of 'Cucuza' Castiello with the Cachivache Orchestra and also "Yo Ya Me Muero", "Para Verte Gambetear" and "Maradona Blues", among others that were played, some accompanied by the dance of Bruno Tombari and Rocío Lequio.

Throughout the day, which began with the famous video of the protagonist confessing his dream of playing in the World Cup in black and white, archival images were projected that covered his years of fubtolera glory: from his first goals and his tricks with the 'Cebollitas' to his goals with the national team and at Napoli.

On the last song, the audience that filled the Parque Centenario Auditorium stood up to sing along with the six singers on stage the version of "La Mano de Dios".
